Questions people ask us

Don’t see yours? Call and ask. We’re up 24/7.

Are you really available 24/7?

Yes. Call any hour of any day, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Which areas do you cover?

Snoqualmie (including Snoqualmie Ridge), North Bend, Fall City, Preston, Carnation and Snoqualmie Pass.

How long will it take you to get to me?

It depends on where you are and what time it is. When you call, we give you an arrival estimate for your location.

How much does a car locksmith cost?

It depends on the job and the vehicle: a lockout is different from programming a smart key, and key systems vary by year and model. Call with your vehicle details and location and we’ll give you a quote.

Do you work on every make and model?

We work on a wide range of vehicles, but not every key system can be handled outside the dealership. Tell us the year, make and model and we’ll tell you up front whether we can help. For Teslas we handle lockouts only, not keys.

Do I need to be with the car?

Yes. We need to verify that you own the vehicle (photo ID plus registration, title or insurance) before we open it or make a key.

How do you open a locked car without damaging it?

We use automotive entry tools designed to work the lock or the interior controls without forcing the door. The method depends on the vehicle.

Do you come out at night?

Yes. We’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.

Do I have to prove the car is mine?

Yes. We ask for photo ID and proof of ownership before we hand over access. If your documents are inside the car, we check them once it’s open.

Can a locksmith open a locked Tesla?

Yes. We open locked Teslas so you can get your key card or phone out. We don’t make or program Tesla keys.

Do you make Tesla key cards or fobs?

No. Tesla keys, key cards, fobs and phone keys go through Tesla. We only handle Tesla lockouts.

My phone died and I’m locked out of my Tesla. What now?

Try the key card on the door pillar or the app on someone else’s phone. If that’s not possible, call us and we’ll come open the car.

Can I drive with part of the key stuck in the ignition?

Usually not. The remaining piece blocks the cylinder from turning properly. Leave it alone and call us. Forcing it can damage the cylinder.

Can you make a new key from the broken pieces?

Often the broken pieces help us read the cuts. Whether we can make a replacement on site depends on the vehicle and its key system.

Do I need to go to the dealership for a new key?

For many vehicles, no. A mobile automotive locksmith can cut and program the key where the car is parked. We’ll confirm for your vehicle when you call.

What affects the cost of a replacement car key?

The key type (metal, transponder, remote head or smart key), whether you still have a working key, and the vehicle’s security system. Call with your year, make and model for a quote.

What can I do if I lost my car key and have no spare?

Call a mobile automotive locksmith. For most vehicles we can make and program a new key on site without towing the car.

Will the lost key still start my car?

For many vehicles we can remove lost keys from the car’s memory when we program the new one, so the old key won’t start it. Ask us about this for your vehicle.

Can a locksmith reprogram my key fob?

Yes, for many vehicles. An automotive locksmith with the right programming equipment can program new and replacement fobs on site.

Can I buy a fob online and have you program it?

Sometimes. Many online fobs are the wrong frequency, already locked to another car, or poor quality. Send us the part number before you buy and we’ll tell you if we can use it.

Can a locksmith replace an ignition?

Yes. An automotive locksmith can repair, rekey or replace many ignition cylinders and switches on site. What’s possible depends on the vehicle, so tell us the year, make and model.

Why won’t my key turn in the ignition?

Common causes are a locked steering wheel, a worn key, worn wafers inside the ignition cylinder, or debris. If wiggling the steering wheel doesn’t free it, the key or cylinder likely needs attention.

Can AutoZone or a hardware store program my key?

Some stores can copy basic keys and some chip keys if you bring a working key. If you have no working key, or need a smart key or fob programmed to the car, you need an automotive locksmith or the dealer.

How long does key programming take?

It depends on the vehicle and key type. Many are done in one visit at the car. We’ll give you a better idea once we know the year, make and model.

Can you copy a key with a chip in it?

For many vehicles, yes. We cut the blade and program the transponder or smart key to your car.
